Steps To Recover Deleted WhatsApp Messages On Android
There are 3 methods by which you can recover deleted WhatsApp Messages On Android:
- Using Google Drive
- Recover recent local backup
- Using A Software
Method 1: Recover WhatsApp Messages Using Google Drive
WhatsApp provides an option to backup your chats and media (photo, video, GIFs, documents etc) to Google Drive.
But the problem with this method is, you can only recover your chats, if you had backup them already in Google Drive.
I suggest you to check once again, if you did. WhatsApp ask users to give permission to it, to backup your messages automatically, when you verify your mobile number. Maybe, you had enabled that option, but you forgot.
Before telling you, how to recover data from WhatsApp, let me tell you:
How To Backup WhatsApp Messages To Google Drive
1.) Open WhatsApp
2.) Tap the menu button (Three vertical dots) on the top-right side of WhatsApp.
3.) Tap on Settings
4.) Tap on Chats
5.) Tap on Chat backup
6.) Change Google Drive Settings
- Back up to Google Drive ______? You can select to backup to Google Drive Never, Only When You Tap “Back up”, Daily, Weekly and Monthly. Select one option, according to your need
- Choose An Account in which you want to backup your WhatsApp messages or add account.
- Select Backup over Wi-FI only or Wi-FI or Cellular.
- Tick/ Un-tick Include Videos. Videos can increase your Backup’s size, so select after thinking twice.
7.) Click on Back UP button. Now WhatsApp will start uploading the Backup to Google Drive.
Points To Note:
- Messages will not be end-to-end encrypted by Whatsapp while on Google Drive
- Your first Backup will take more time to complete, make sure, your smartphone is enough charged
- Your previous backup will be overwritten every time you create a backup using the same Google drive account.
Steps To Recover A Backup Using Google Drive
1.) Install WhatsApp
2.) Open WhatsApp And Verify your mobile number
3.) Now WhatsApp will ask you to recover your messages from Google drive, click on “Give Permission”, to give WhatsApp permission to access Google Drive
4.) Add or pick a Google Drive Account
5.) Just follow the instructions on screen
6.) After WhatsApp finds your backup on Google Drive, click Restore. As shown, in the screenshot below.

Method 2: Recover Recent Local Backup
WhatsApp store data of last 7 days in your phone. If you want to recover data of last 7 days, then follow this steps:
1.) Download a file manager app (most phones already have one). Some File Manager App names are: File Commander, File Manager etc.
2.) Open the File Manager App
3.) Go to SDCard/WhatsApp/Database in the file manager. If you do not find your data there, then check Main Storage or Internal Memory.
4.) You need to rename the file which you want to restore.
In very old backup, the number of crtpy maybe: crypt9 or crypt10, do not change crypt number.
5.) Uninstall WhatsApp
6.) Install WhatsApp
7.) Follow the instructions, and tap on Restore when asked.
Method 3: Recover WhatsApp Messages Though Software
You can also recover your WhatsApp Messages (Photos, GIFs, Videos, Document, Location etc) using a software.
1.) Download Android Data Recovery Software
2.) Install it
3.) Connect your Android to PC with USB cable
4.) Open Android Data Recovery Software
5.) This software will automatically detect your smartphone and start processing.
6.) After the software scan & analyze your smartphone data, select options which you want to recover. For example: Select WhatsApp.
7.) Allow the software to scan. The software needs permission to scan Whatsapp messages, Click on “Allow” on your smartphone. If you do not get any option in your smartphone, click on retry, as shown in the screenshot below.
8.) Select the data or just click on recover. The software will show you a preview of all the software’s. Unselect the data, which you do not want to recover.
9.) Click on Recover, now just wait some minutes, your data will be recovered.
